ACTIVITIES

INNOVATIVE BOTANICAL INTERVENTION WITH VETIVER :
With the assistance from MUTTHATHARA NETHERLANDS we have implemented the intervention of vetiver to the 40 small and marginal farmers of Mattavettu and surrounding areas irrespective of caste, creed, religion etc. as a possible tool to protect the plants from rodents, while the plant having the potential to stabilize the Persistent Organic Pollutants.

Through this program more than 50 farmers and the 250 acres of land is protected while providing the additional income through selling the Vetiver roots.

LEAF PLATE MAKING FOR THE RURAL WOMEN:
With the assistance of MELANIA FOUNDATION – NETHERLANDS we have implemented the program of training the rural women of the villages of Kalasapkkam Block of Tiruvannamalai District using locally available leafs. This is an ongoing project yet to be completed.

EVENING STUDY CENTERS FOR DEPRIVED CHILDREN OF TIRUVANNAMALAI TALUK:
The program expenditure was Rs. 800250/-.As we have already stated in our previous reports we are running YOUTH LEARNING AND EMPOWERMENT CENTER in the villages of Tiruvannamalai taluk 325 children are enrolled in 14 centers but more than 20% above the enrolled children are attending the center. The animators’ were provided with smart phones. We have constructed 14 work cum education sheds for the children. In addition to this we have also implemented the games cum cultural activities like singing among the children.

In these centers we provide the activities of Games, Story Telling, Spoken English, Leadership training (with reference to public leadership involving sacrifice and dedication) and also conduct youth talent meet once in a year.

Apart from this we have also inculcated the idea of organic kitchen garden and personal / public hygiene among the children and the children excelled in this program

TREE PLANTATION PROGRAM:
We have planted more than 500 tree saplings on the bunds of DEVANAMPATTU minor irrigation tank while replacing the invasive species with native tree varieties with the view of enriching the Biodiversity.

HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAM:
We have conducted awareness camps in the villages of Kettavarampalayam, Kovilmathi mangalam of Kalasapakkam Development Block. In these programs the Maternal Mortality Rate which has increased to the 80% in the past five years. The identified problems are access to the health center and hypertension. In the targeted villages there is no problem of access. But there is the problem of hypertension among pregnant women. Therefore with the assistance from the Resource Persons from the medical field we provided awareness on this problem and we also provided list of medical institutions which provide medical treatment for hypertension free of cost. We reached more than 200 pregnant mothers to be.

SELF HELP GROUP TRAINING PROGRAM:
We have conducted training program for 60 Women Self Help Group Leaders from the villages of Kalasapakkam Development Block and Thinjapuram Development Block for two days at our registered office campus. The resource persons from the banking field provided necessary inputs on the venturing in the profitable business activities with the view of better income generation, needed disciplines, proper accounting procedure to fix the price for produced / value added products etc.

ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS PROGRAM:
With the special aim to reduce the use of plastic and persistent organic pollutants we have conducted awareness camps in the villages of Kovilmathimangalam and Permapalayam of Kalasapakkam Development Block where unapproved pesticides and fungicides and plastic for the purpose of food material packing are used. The resource persons from the fields of public health and environmental activism took part in these programs. The alternate healthy methods and materials were discussed in these programs. We have reached more than 500 people through this program.
